Column #5 The Ultimate Gift Guide

The Ultimate Gift Guide
By Amy Witt

Here’s your ultimate holiday gift idea, and spending guide to help you survive the holidays.  You’re probably thinking you’ve exhausted all of your options. Between anniversaries, Valentine’s, Easters, birthdays…wow that’s a lot of gifts! I will help you think of something she/he will love but might not buy for him/herself. A gift that will remind them of you every time they slip that perfect gift on or gaze at it.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be expensive or fancy to be that perfect gift. Relax! Sit back and read…I’ve done all the research!
First, let’s shop locally.  Isn’t it about time we looked around and helped OUR community…Main Street and Olive will be our priorities.  How about a gift certificate to our local salon or barber? We have many barbers and salons that provide great services including manicures, pedicures, and facials. Maybe this year you plan on asking that big question…you need a diamond. Or maybe just some nice jewelry…our local jewelry stores have many options. Something a little different? Mitchell’s on Main even carries many stones and turquoise…my fave! Perhaps your loved one would like to get into shape…Olympic Gym and Brent’s Bodies for Life are local owned and operated gyms and personal training. How about supporting our local wineries? La Belle Winery and Bella La Vina offer fabulous varieties of wine while giving wine.
Men can never go wrong giving their loved one clothing, shoes, jewelry, or handbags. Our local clothing boutiques offer us amazing taste, deals, and quality products. A round of golf from Porterville Municipal Golf Course or River Island Country Club will also make your golfer a happy golfer! Candles, quilts, jams, jellies, and boxed fruit are also fresh ideas that our businesses offer.
If you’re on a small budget…that’s okay…many of us are! Delicious goodies, like cupcakes, cookies, cakes, or candy are thoughtful, inexpensive, and yes delicious! Everyone enjoys a nice painting or drawing. Paint or draw a personal and delicate piece. Most people love music. Making mixed CD’s with music they love or introducing them to new tunes is also a great gift. Putting together photo collages for family and friends are fun and very personal gifts. Other money saving ideas including sticking to a budget, making a list, using rewards cards, buying wrapping supplies at dollar stores, or save on gas and time and mapping out your holiday shopping adventure. Just remember two things…stop stressing, Christmas is about our time with our loved ones that is a gift in itself. Secondly, it’s the thought that counts!

Happy Thursday it's almost Friday!
