Column #14- Evans Feed and Livestock

Evans Feed and Livestock
By Amy Witt

As a roper, animal lover, and fashionista, Evan’s Feed is my one stop shop for all my needs. Carrying Classic and Cactus Ropes, I only purchase my Cactus“Whistler” head ropes from Evans. With the huge amount of ropers in Porterville, Evans is the only store in town providing us with the best ropes.
Evans carries a huge variety of products. Wrangler, Cinch, Cruel Girl, and Carhartt clothing are the top of the line clothing companies they always have in stock. They have a huge wall filled with Wrangler Cowboy Cut Jeans, as well, as racks of nice button-up shirts for all of Porterville’s hardworking men. Ladies can be dressed to kill in Cruel Girl or Wrangler, while they both offer great trendy collections keeping up to date with all the current fashion trends throwing in a western flair. Custom jewelry and headbands are also for sale by some of our local creative Porterville girls.
Evans has been offering Porterville some of the best customer service and products since 1998, owned by Roger and Dale Evans of Madera. In August 2011, Adell Shelton took over the store manager position, while she assisted Don Powell for years as his assistant manager. You are always greeted by name and with a smile by Danielle Davis, Adell’s assistant manager. The guys outside always provide 100% customer service helping you with all your loading needs.
Saddles, Weaver Leather, Justin Boots, children’s clothing, show animal products, and feed are also other products they provide. Carrying a huge inventory of vaccines and de-wormers, you have all the vet products you need when doctoring your animals. Purina, Nutrina, Western Milling, and Show Feeds are just a few grains they supply...always educating you on the best brands for your animal’s health. Evans is a great store for any and all FFA and 4-H needs while they supply all show products and feed, including stanchions, blowers, boxes, and all the shiny products you’d want to make your lamb, pig, steer, goat, or horse look beautiful!
Evans has been so supportive and encouraging of my collection always stocking up and bragging about my collection with Wrangler. I am so fortunate for the support from all of the people in my community.
If your in need in some dancing cowboy boots, need some ropes, or the best feed for you animals go visit Evan’s crew at 79 W. Orange.

Column #14 - Real Heroes

The Real Heroes
By Amy Witt
I wanted to stop and take a moment to give thanks to our men and women fighting for us to live in our amazing free country! Give thanks to the heroes and to the families’ heroes we have lost…Brett Land, Doug Jeffries, Thomas J. Mayberry, Timothy Paul Martin, and all of our other fallen soldiers. I am so tired of hearing people complain about how horrible our country is or the war…yes, the war is never a good thing…but give thanks…stand by and support OUR men who our fighting for you people who complain and are able to sleep safely at night.
A few weeks ago, we saw my brother, Wyatt Witt, off to basic training in the Air Force.  As a close, tight-nit family it was probably one of the hardest thing we’ve been through. I come from a history of great heroes. My grandfather Frank Nieblas served in the Air Force as a mechanic, while my grandpa Lloyd Witt served in the Marines fighting in World War II. I didn’t get the chance to know my Grandpa Nieblas because he died at a very young age. He was a very handsome man, racing boats and race cars. Grandpa and grandma lived a great life like celebrities.
While I did get to spend some time with my Grandpa Witt, my fondest memory was being 5 years old spraying Aqua Net hairspray in his hair while he watched “Mattlock.” I now know my designing skills came from him, while he was one of Levi’s Strauss’s first designers…I actually have all the old patterns. He also had his own clothing line, Witt Craft, in which he designed and executed western clothing and leather wear selling to the movie industry.
It has been very hard with my brother being gone, not only as my brother but as one of my best friends. We write letters everyday. I am sooo safe and proud to say I am an American and even prouder to have my best friend and brother serving our country as an airman.
I am soo sickened when I see people saying, “Soldiers aren’t heroes.” They even have Facebook pages and YouTube videos supporting this nonsense. I put an Air Force sticker on my car, and recently it was ripped off. In my heart, soldiers are the greatest heroes of us all!
The last week of March, we will be road tripping to Texas to watch my brother graduate as an air man. I am so beyond excited to watch him walk across the stage in his blues looking so impeccably handsome.
Please take a moment and give thanks to our heroes. Take the time to stop and thank them when you see them. Be grateful and proud to be an American! I sure am!!!!

I love my brothers more than life! They mean everything to me!
There's never a day that goes by that they don't make me smile.
This is a sneak peak of what I got for Valentines Day from someone special...picture to follow tomorrow! :))

XOXO
Love ya!

The Sweetest Revenge.

Wearing:
Jeans: Wrangler- custom jeans I designed
Pink Button-up: Charlotte Russe
Plaid Button-up: Vintage Pendleton- Thrifted $1.00
Scarf: Vintage
Earrings: Forever21
Hat: Stetson

I had a fabulous Saturday...a whole day of branding calves then after painted the town at one of our favorite bar hang outs "Hoot n Holler" with a live band.
The branding was great but I didn't have a very good photographer...I also realized that the camera really does add 10lbs...and that my shirts didn't really flatter me. But wearing fitted shirts to work in sometimes aren't logical.
I do not wear western jeans...but these were an exception because I designed the peacock for Wrangler as a sample...
After branding I went home, took a bubble bath, a nap, and we all jotted on down to the Hoot.
I can't even begin to explain how fun it was...the bartender was giving me free drinks all night which even made it that much more special.
Even after the bar we had an after party at my dear friends house...we finally decided to go to bed at 5:00 this morning...the first time in my whole 22 years I have ever stayed up that late or had that much fun!
I can definitely appreciate great family and friends, my good horse Mo, music, dancing, and too many good friends.
While I come to think of it, Valentines day is coming. I dread it...I love the meaning and all the little things that come along with it like pinks and red and hearts and lips and cupcakes....and all the cute little details.
I always seem to have a horrible one for the last 4 years...but now I'm hoping it'll all come around...hopefully that special person will make it happen.

XOXO
Love ya!
