Column #26 - Frieda Can-or-Not

The Porterville Recorder
Frieda Can-or-Not
By Amy Witt

Walking into the new Porterville consignment store, New 2 U, my eye was instantly drawn to a section - a closet delicately and perfectly merchandised displaying vintage. As I practically ran to the back of the store, I walked into to Frieda-Can-or-Not’s handmade, vintage, repurposed collection. Admiring every little detail, display, and product, I stumbled across some business cards neatly displayed in a vintage soap holder. Tamara Orth, 22 years young, Starbucks barista, a beautiful, inspiring, vintage lover and owner of Frieda-Can-or-Not. Instantly snatching a card I had to get in touch with her.
Frieda Can-or-Not is quite a special unique name. At the age of three, Tamara refused to say complete sentences so her Grandfather Dean gave her the nickname. At the age of 19, Tamara began collecting items from thrift stores and yard sales creating a little collection with no intention or goals for her product but to enjoy them herself. Frieda Can-or-Not happened within a week when she heard news of the new consignment store. The vintage enthusiast began a small step into a huge future!
Tamara, a girl after my own heart, a vintage, and hippie fashionista loves photography, crochets, sews, and listens to Fire Frenzy. A talented special girl whose favorite vintage and thrift stores are located in San Luis Obispo where she travels to get inspired and hand select products for Frieda Can-Or-Not.  Goals for Frieda’s…you bet!
Her dreams are to take Frieda to a full on vintage and thrift store with different sections ranging from hand select items, refurbished items, and handmade items featuring products by the enlightening expert herself! Currently her new hobby is to purchase old sweaters from thrift stores and
execute them into pillows…if you ask me…that’s genius!!
Most of Porterville may know Tamara as the Starbucks barista, but let me just tell you…this girl is talented, with an artistic eye, and a heart of gold! You can visit Frieda Can-or-Not at New 2 U consignment store on 210 N. Hockett or her blog at http://www.friedacanornot.blogspot.com.

Why Hello? How are my darlings doing? I hope great because I am...and omg how about this weather...isn't it to die for...well in Porterville it is...its soo beautiful and nice.
Today I interviewed a lovely lady who will be featured in my column, as well as, on here of course.
This outfit was fun and made me happy. The Marilyn tank I could not even think about turning down...it reminds me alot of Andy Warhol...gosh isn't he amazing!
And yes...I was actually listening to Justin Bieber and the Boyfriend song...I LOVE IT!! I actually never ever liked him until this song came out...he is very much a very talented guitar player.
I have been very very happy lately...I have alot to be happy about...I am a very fortunate and lucky girl.
But I will give a little detail...Dirt Road Daughters asked to feature me as a columnist...but that's all I am going to say until I have more details! :)
I have a 3 hour test to take so I have to jam.
Oh, and a Venti Passion Tea w/ extra strawberries and sweetener...please and thank you!
Have a beautiful day!

I was sooo honored when Rodellee from Sugar Lips contacted me to sponsor my blog.

They sent me the above dress and once I saw it I knew exactly how I was going to style it!

Column #25- Salad in Fashion

Salad in Fashion
By Amy Witt
The Porterville Recorder

Some days I get a little spice and I can’t wait to strap on my red paisley vintage inspired Anthropologie apron. Baking is my forte but I have been experimenting a bit with salads…making eye appealing beautiful, colorful, and tasty salads. With sun shining bright and this weather we love I thought I would share with you a little taste of the Emeril within me.

Salad Ingredients:

- Spring mix/spinach mix (if you prefer iceberg lettuce then use that)
- Blackberries
- Strawberries
- Feta Cheese
- Watermelon
- Pecans

Place lettuce in a decadent bowl. Chop up strawberries and watermelon however you prefer. Layer blackberries, watermelon, strawberries, pecans, and fetta cheese.
The dressing usually depends on my mood. Some days I love balsamic vinaigrette and other days I enjoy a delicious concoction in which I shall share with you.

Delicious Concoction Salad Dressing:

- 1/3 cup olive or vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons of sugar…[no actually like 3 or 4 or 5 or 10…whatever fancies you]
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoons red wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped

Mix dressing ingredients with wire wisk until well blended. Make the salad dressing ahead and refrigerate prior to serving your salad.
This salad is great for any occasion or meal. Get creative…you can mix it up with any of your favorite fruits or cheeses. Adding chicken or small steak bites can also take it up a notch! I love to use extra fruit and cheese. The mixture of cheese, fruit, and dressing gives the salad a surprising mouth watering taste you cannot resist. Enjoy!

XOXO

Hello! So sorry to neglect my readers...things have been crazy crazy busy but good :)!
My brother Wyatt came home late late Friday night: He graduated Thursday as a First Class Airman from Command Post Training. My baby brother Zeb also graduated from 8th grade so we had a party in the comfort of my home. Good ole fashion BBQ- Beef ribs, corn on cob, salad, bread, drinks, laughs, and great family and friends!
My Aunt Dana above was my photographer and she was fabulous! Love her very much!
I wanted to be cas but edgy...I really have a rocker side to me...I would love to go watch new bands and go to tons of concerts and wear band shirts...and just live the rocker life...that will some day be a hobbie/love of mine.
That's my little princess Pearl...she really is a princess...she was the socialite of the party!
Putting pink in my hair- I loved! Will be doing again! It's so hard to do different things when you are trying to grow your hair out...the bangs are being grown out at the same time but make appearances every now and again.
I bought this shirt from Target...a few sizes bigger to make shoulder shirt...what do you think of it?
