Music is Freedom

Music just gives me that feeling of being free. From Jack Johnson to Credence Clearwater Revival to Dean Martin to Faron Young…music makes me feel free and fills me with so much life. It’s like medicine to the mind. We all listen to music as medicine to cope with a heart break or feelings of sadness, happiness, excitement, or just plain what to party and feel good. Growing up, my parents forced me to play the piano. I still remember my teacher Patty Duke…she was amazing.
I played for five years and dreaded every recital I was forced to participate in.
Now, I regret not sticking with it. For the last four years I have been delaying my desire to learn to play the acoustic guitar. Over this last week, I have accomplished playing a little tune I created while also attempting to play “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash.

Walls filled with guitars, ukuleles, guitar strings, and all other accessories any musician could desire, I wandered around gleaming so eager to be able to pick up a guitar and jam! Jeff’s Music is an asset to Porterville which is also the only music shop in Porterville. For two years, Jeff Crocker and his son James Coghlan are the owners and operators of Jeff’s Music supplying our community with the best quality full line music instruments and accessories to keep our music souls alive. They also offer rentals, repairs, P.A. systems for any occasion, as well as, lessons for every instrument with 5 different music teachers. Yamaha, Peavey, Ibanez, Fender, Gretsch and D.W. Drums are just a few example of brands the sell. Led Zeppelin’s drummer, John Bonham, and the Beatles keep Jeff rocking strong as a passionate veteran drummer playing for over 40 years, while James enjoys playing the guitar.
Gazing around, I was drawn to the books of music (trying to read the notes), harmonicas, and two 12 string guitars that were beautiful and unique. The tunes of a Banjo filled the room while a student was receiving lessons. Having Jeff’s Music in our community is a very positive aspect which helps keep children out of trouble and involved with school bands. Jeff’s provides top notch local musicians, as well, beginners like me all the same services big brand music stores have to offer. The best part of all we have it in Porterville!
If you’ve been dreaming to learn to rock on the guitar or beat on the drums or whistle the harmonica or any other music instrument or if you are already a jammin’ pro…
go visit Jeff and James at Jeff’s Music on 342 N. Porter Road.

As 2012, has rolled around I will of course continue to write on fashion and clothing boutiques in Porterville but I will be more involved in our community, as well as, writing on food/restaurants, community events, artist and musicians, and all other businesses around Porterville! I will be by to visit everyone!
XOXO
Love ya!

spiritual and the sensual life."

What a great post, you can get back into it! it's funny how when you're younger and you're doing something you don't want to because you don't see the benefit and sometimes you look back and feel a bit of regret for not sticking with something! I believe you, keep at that Johnny Cash tune! P.S. great top!
