Column # 18- Fitness Fashionista

Fitness Fashionista
By Amy Witt

Sweat, energy, the addiction, the sounds of weights banging, and the aroma we all know…besides fashion, I dedicate my life to being healthy, exercising, and Zumba! The gym, my second home which I dedicate 5-6 days out of my week, dancing and working hard with my awesome trainer Rocky.
The gym gives me motivation, energy, and makes me feel so great about myself. It is a safe place to go to relieve stress, socialize, and feel great! Many of my readers I have met at the gym and I am so grateful for meeting such great supportive people!
Work out clothing and active wear can easily be considered some of the hardest staples to add to you wardrobe. I’m sorry but I don’t care what any one says I like to look good when I work out. Yes…you are there to sweat…but if you don’t look good you usually don’t feel good. I was once told by a cowboy, “You look good, you feel good, you ride good.” Think about it…it’s true! Looking good while working out gives us an extra emotional boost that gives us that motivation to work harder.
I won’t even touch on men because they all have their tanks on working hard and looking great. They rock it! As for us women, we do really have many options. Wearing great-fitting, comfortable, and stylish workout wear will help you feel more confident. Embracing your body as a women and feeling confident at the gym is what it really is about. Bold punctuations of color, abstract, graphic tees, and tie-dye are all great and exciting ideas to hit the gym in new gear! 2012 brings these trends in active wear in full force. Clothing in active wear also becomes available for us in organic cottons, soy, bamboo, and coconut fabrics. Natural fabrics are better for your body and fit your curves ever so great. Please refrain from buttons, snaps, or draw strings…they call for accidents and are also distracting.  Designers have also executed colorful and bold tennis shoes to take our active wear wardrobes to even more extremes.
Yes, we can do our makeup and hair. Have fun with your hair. Headbands, hats, and different up-do’s always complete a work out attire. With makeup, keep it as minimal as possible. Earrings, bracelets, and rings are also accessories we can add to step it up a notch.
The bottom line is while you’re working out, choose clothes you will be comfortable in while making a bold statement with your style. When you feel good, you will rock any outfit!

XOXO
Love ya!
