Cowboy Winter Trends - January 2013 -Ropers Sports News

Ropers Sports News
Cowboy Winter Trends
By Amy Witt

It can be a bit heartbreaking to bid farewell to beautiful roping days and transition from cool breezy long sleeves to heavy Pendleton’s, wool socks with always boot season, but let's concentrate on the bright side — Winter is offering some seriously chic and handsome boots. Ariat, Justin, Frye, and Old Gringo will demand you to ride high for your wild and fashionable side. Grab a hot caramel apple spice from Starbucks and hit the arena or ranch in full fashionable tasteful force!
A must have for this season for both men and women are biker jackets, leather jackets, embellished sweaters, Navajo and Native American inspired prints and art, fur parkas, army green, military, and sailor inspired jackets and pea coats, paired with a silk scarves while adding a pop of color, as well as, to keep you cozy when running a steer down the arena or for the ranch hand doctoring cattle. A cozy, fur-trimmed hood is always must!
We will be seeing a plethora of boots in turquoise, silver, and red!  Jewelry of all stones, silver, and gold will always be large and in charge. You can never go wrong with fur and gold ensembles in your wardrobe.
I am probably the biggest fan of vintage Pendleton’s, men’s wear, and denim on denim that you will ever meet.  Denim and denim is always hot and women steal a pair of your boyfriend or husband’s jeans and rock ‘em for that boyfriend inspired jean. Wrangler makes an impeccable denim men’s shirt – If you want to spend a little more, True Religion and Lucky Brand design classy denim button-ups for both men and women.
You can usually find brand new Pendleton’s at vintage or thrift stores that not only will save you huge bucks but allow you to be lovely and fetching. Speaking of vintage and thrift stores take advantage and embrace vintage and thrift stores especially while traveling because every vintage and thrift store is different. You can gather quality, very unique, and admirable sweaters, jackets, denim shirts, and jackets, as well as, silk scarves that no one else will have while not busting your wallet with all these roping and rodeos to enter!
With all of Winter’s opulent styles make a grand statement in and out of the arena, add a gilded sweatshirt to your repertoire, or step out in a fur staple and killer boots, and kill ‘em in the winners’ circle.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Eight days into 2013 and I hope you are having a peachy time thus far!
2013 def. has a lot in store for California Dreamin and myself.
I wanted to attach a few pictures of my Pendleton collection...which isn't even a quarter of what I really have.
Most of them I wear and usually misplace or are at the dry cleaners.
I have been collecting these over the years from thrift stores and vintage stores mostly thrifting buying for $1.00.
If you look closely at the tags you can see the generations of the tags and how they have transformed.
Currently, Hurley is collabing with Pendleton to make flannels gearing toward the surf/skate industry.
My collection ranges from rodeo shirts to Christmas looking sweaters,
to jackets and even to jackets with shoulder pads and wooden buttons.
To sum it up, I am obsessed with Pendletons...I love m
enswear.
Below, I also wanted to share some of my instagram pics...Follow me at : @caliiforniadreamin
The Trail Buster brochure is actually my Grandfather Lloyd Witt's
brochure for his clothing and leather wear line, Witt Craft.
Fashion, design, and the love for western wear goes beyond a passion, it boils in my veins.

California Dreamin is now on Facebook...find me!!
Check out pics below!

Just a natural lip kinda day.

Love ya!

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas...

Wearing: BCBG Runway Collection Pants; Target Marilyn Tank; Forever21 Vest, Necklace, and Jacket; Tom Wedges

Starbucks holiday drinks, Dean Martin Christmas humming, the decadent smells of Christmas trees, and crazy full parking lots...Christmas is intoxicating the air!
Did you notice my Christmas nails...I was pretty proud of myself.
We will be having two Christmas's this year. Christmas night will be spent with the Dunn family while our actual Christmas will be the 29th celebrated eating a huge family dinner hosted at my house with
my brother and all of our family...
including all my uncles and most my cousins! Pretty exciting because the last time that happened I recall being about 10 years old.
The biggest gift of all is my brother coming home safe, healthy, and an over the top Airman!
We are all so lucky to be happy, healthy, and most importantly all being able to be together.
My brother was choosen for Airman of the month and Airman spotlight...
pretty badass accomplishment for a 19 year old.
You can gladly read his article at http://www.mcconnell.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123330666
I don't know if you can tell much, however, my hair has been a little update...and it is supppperr fun!!
Oh, Ice Age 3 has finally been released on DVD...one of my FAVORITE movies of all time...a great stocking stuffing for any age...to die for!!
I will be talking to you soon..so until then safe Christmas shopping and tons of peace, love, and happiness!!

At last....

Wearing: Lucky Brand Tee; Urban Outfitters Skinny; Nine West wedges

For a year now I have been wanting this tattoo. I never had the courage to get it because that meant alot of things for me...deeper than anyone knows. This tattoo speaks not only emotionally but intellectually to me.
With the power and fearlessness of a best friend, she walked me into Mooney Ink and we received tattoos.
I was grateful to have Larry tattoo me. He was so professional and really just an amazing person and artist.
Behind the shop, were walls filled with graffiti. I die for grafitti..it really arouses and inspires my mind and facinates me that these gifted artists are merely using only a paint can.
I recently have taking a huge liking to Nicki Minaj..so I am going to jam out to her and do work!
Have a beautiful day...it is raining here...thank you rain gods!!
XOXO
Love ya!

I waited all my
Life I can tell it's time
Drifting away I'm

I have become alive"

You gotta give em the look, ok. saying hey, you fool around with this here girl, I'll kill you boy.

Happy, Happy, Happy...because I went pheasant hunting for the first time in my life today!
Of all my years hunting and being raised around hunting since I was born, I have never been pheasant hunting. The pheasant I am standing with was my first pheasant I ever killed...then I got dangerous and started lining them up. The weather was very cold and foggy but once we started hunting the sun came through the clouds and shined brightly...it was a beautiful day!

P.S. I forgot to mention my quote is from my favorite Duck Dynasty family member....Uncle Si :)

"May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond."

The Ultimate Cowboy Gift Guide - Ropers Sports News

Ropers Sports News
The Ultimate Cowboy Gift Guide
By Amy Wit
Rope those what-to-give worries goodbye and don’t even stress about the amount of money you have to spend, especially with all these ropings and rodeos we have to enter, and let’s not forget the NFR... uh, hello?! I’ve been searching high and low to uncover fresh, fun, and unique ideas for your entire crew.
Let’s start with good reads. Do you have a book lover you know who is always searching for great new reads? “Even Cowgirls Get The Blues” by Tom Robbins is a wonderful read for women. “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West” by Dee Brown is a stunning story for men, or how about the “Hunger Games” series for anyone, any age. A subscription to a favorite magazine like “Cowboys and Indians” or, even better, the Ropers Sports News, which is offering a great holiday deal right now (see ad on page 4).
Drink and be merry with my favorite and most mouth watering wine, Stella Rosa, paired with some classy or personalized wine glasses. Maybe you have a cook you’re wanting to treat? “Bring’Em on Home” cookbook, as recommended by the lovely Erica Krantz in her “Home On The Range” column on page 44 of this issue, offers recipes from PRCA families. A handmade apron or one you hand picked delicately from your favorite store is something the gift receiver will enjoy. Stores like Anthropology, Home Goods, World Market and Target offer exclusive and fabulous cooking utensils, bowls, aprons, and accessories for your top chef.
There’s an artist in all of us…maybe you want to bring the inner artist out in someone talented – Artist Loft offers a wonderful Refined Palette that includes 125-pieces of paints, brushes, crayons, and everything you need for an affordable $50. Even accessories such as canvases, paint brushes, sketchbooks, or a ceramic or pottery class to top it off.
Music lover or musician? Taylor Guitars, Gibson, Martin Guitars, and Fender offer a variety of affordable quality guitars for any age or level. Headphones, iHomes, and iTunes cards are excellent ideas to keep us rockin any time, any place.
Let’s talk fashion. Leather or motorcycle inspired jackets are so chic for men and women alike this season especially to be sporting around at a roping or rodeo. Forever21, Macys, J.C. Penney, J Crew, and the Gap offer affordable and first-class leather jackets that will make everyone envious.
Pendleton has some good specials on clothing, blankets, and shaving kits perfect for any traveling gypsy. Toms shoes are a comfortable, stylish gift for men and women and also give back to children. Men, you can never go wrong with clothes, shoes, and jewelry for your perfect lady, however, it is the selection that counts. Pay close attention to where she shops and what she fancies. You can never go wrong with chandelier earrings, statement necklaces, Betsey Johnson, turquoise, and a girl’s best friend… let’s not forget the obvious… diamonds! Is it time to pop the question to the woman of your dreams?
For the over-the-top gift givers, listen up! The Cowboy Christmas at the NFR has so much to offer. Gypsy Soule, Lucchese, Gist Silversmith, Resistol, and Heel-O-Matic are just a few of the booths to gander at for gifts to splurge on.
Branco Ranch Western Furniture, Sunny-D Crystal Wear by Donna Mahoney, Hale on Earth by McKenzie Hale, roping memberships, barrel racing lessons from the greats Jerri Mann or Lyndee Stairs, roping lessons from my favorites Denny Watkins, Kyle Lockett, Daniel Green, or Dusty Watkins are also out of this world gift ideas that are meaningful and memorable.
The greatest gifts, however, we cannot buy. Love, friendship, family, laughter, peace, and being in the company of the ones we love is the most desired and cherished! If you are on a strict budget, make something, give a picture, write a love letter, poem, or give a card, but most of all give love.
Have a joyous, fun, safe, happy, and peaceful Christmas and New Year! Visit me at: http://caliidreamin.blogspot.com or feel free to email me with your comments.
Don’t forget to be on the lookout for Ropers Sports News at the NFR and pick up your free sample copy of the December issue at the gift venues there.

Everytime the mail comes the first of the month, I feel a sense of giddy inside -
an excitment and a sense of pride. I feel so honored and proud that I have been given the opportunity to write for the Ropers Sports News.
